BBS (Bulletin Board System) refers to the IT systems that spread between the 1980s and 1990s, which allowed data and messages to be exchanged between other users and computers using a computer with a modem, similar to the Internet. All this is still available for anyone to try out today, as many BBS systems are still alive and new ones have been created thanks to the efforts of enthusiastic operators.
The BBSs are a great way to be part of the retro community around the C64.


BBS systems can be used with terminal programs, one of the most popular of which for Commodore 64 is the CCGMS software. There are several versions, which can be downloaded for free, for example from here.






In addition to the terminal program, a Commodore 64-compatible modem device is required, which can be a modern wifi device. There is also an excellent guide to making and using one on this website.
