The developer first encountered the game around 1982-83, when he was still using a VIC-20 computer. His goal was to recreate the original game on the C64 platform using only software generated sprites.
Since finishing the arcade port of Moon Patrol for C64 as Mars Patrol last year I really found out about the very much alive retro scene for the C64 (and other oldies of course).

Interesting facts about the project
- The graphics of the original game have been reconstructed from the ROM file and faithfully reproduced.
- For sound effects, he used the SFX sound controller by 4mat, although he modestly notes that SID’s musical capabilities are limited.
- The developer pays tribute to the original creator, Roger Merrit, who made the game in just 8 KB.
The aim is to destroy robots and score as many points as possible while avoiding hitting walls or being attacked by robots.
For Jörg Karwath, the project has been an enjoyable challenge and he plans to further develop software sprite management techniques or possibly create a new game.
