SNK vs CAPCOM for C64/C128 – Stronger Edition – Clash of Legends Reborn

A true gem for retro gaming fans has arrived: the legendary crossover makes its return on the Commodore 64 and C128. The Stronger Edition is not just an update, but a refined, faster, and more powerful experience that faithfully brings back the arcade spirit to the 8-bit era.

The Stronger Edition includes a total of 32 fighters and it’s distributed as a MagicDesk 2 (MD2) CRT image file (2MBytes). It can be run on VICE/Denise emulators and real hardware. You should use latest ad-hoc build version of VICE 3.9, that is VICE 3.9 r45695 or higher version in order to run the game. For real machines you have to buy a physical MagicDesk 2 cartridge made by CrystalCT. Link to his project: https://github.com/crystalct/MagicDesk2

Why is it special?

  • Two legendary worlds collide – Iconic fighters from SNK and Capcom face off once again, in the spirit of Street Fighter and King of Fighters.
  • Refined gameplay – Compared to earlier versions, the Stronger Edition offers better-balanced characters and smoother combat mechanics.
  • A technical feat – Developers have pushed the C64/C128 to their limits: fluid animations, detailed graphics, and surprisingly impressive sound effects create an immersive experience.
  • Dual platform release – Whether on C64 or C128, the game runs flawlessly, making the most of each system’s capabilities.

Who is it for?

  • Retro enthusiasts who want to experience how 90s fighting games feel on an 8-bit system.
  • Collectors who appreciate fresh and unique titles developed for the Commodore family.
  • Anyone curious about how modern gameplay concepts can be reimagined within nostalgic hardware constraints.
