Battle for Frost (2025, WindigoProductions)

Battle for Frost is a turn-based wargame for up to four players that emphasizes unit combinations, terrain use, and supply planning to win battles.

The galaxy is controlled by a few powerful dynasties, that are constantly fighting each other for influence and wealth.

Gameplay and mechanics

The gameโ€™s core decisions revolve around composing complementary unit types, exploiting terrain advantages, and managing supply lines; the sequel adds new abilities such as cloaking and introduces two combat mechs that expand tactical options.

Modes and content

The package includes an 8-mission campaign with two difficulty levels, 4 skirmish maps for custom matches, and 8 simulator missions for tactical training, supporting both PAL and NTSC play.

Units and technical features

Approximately 20 distinct units and buildings are available; unit production is resource-based, the engine includes additional settings for customization, and the experience is supported by atmospheric in-game music.

The game is published  in October as a boxed version by Komoda & Amiga plus magazine along with another of our games,  The Tribe. The box contains a printed manual and other extras.

Comparison: Battle for Frost vs Battle for Cronos

Battle for Frost and Battle for Cronos share the same turn-based wargame foundation: up to four factions, emphasis on unit composition, terrain and supply management, and an 8-mission campaign playable on two difficulty levels.

Gameplay and mechanics differences

  • New mechanics in Frost: Frost introduces additional mechanics (for example stealth and two combat mechs) that expand tactical choices beyond Cronosโ€™s baseline systems.
  • Tactical focus: Cronos represents the established base design with more skirmish and simulator content for practice and custom matches, while Frost focuses on expanding tactical systems and presentation.

Both the great games are recommended for players who seek tactical, resource- and position-driven challenges with varied unit combinations and configurable play modes.
