TurboMaster V3

This year has brought many exciting developments for Commodore 64 enthusiasts, including the introduction of TurboMaster V3 by Thomas Christoph, developer of COREi64 – a 4 MHz accelerator card that has opened up new dimensions in the performance of this classic machine.

The original TurboMaster was released in the 1980s by Schnedler Systems, designed as an accelerator for the Commodore 64. While the standard C64 runs on a 6510 CPU clocked at just over 1 MHz, the TurboMaster swapped that out for a 65C02 running at over 4 MHz, providing a fourfold speed increase.

The updated MasterAdapter allows for quick switching between GEOram and REU without the user having to fiddle with hard-to-reach jumpers. The case is available in two versions: a metal version that is faithful to the original design, and a 3D printable version. In addition, a case-less version will also be available for those who want to make their own case.

The new TurboMaster V3 supports two different CPUs. The original R65C02P4 as well as the new WDC W65C02S6TPG-14 that can be bought brand new. The new PCB also supports currently available SRAM at the faster chip speeds as well as older SRAM.
