Rotor Rampage by Ken McIlveen and Dave Duke

Rotor Rampage is a helicopter-based action game released in 2024 for the Commodore 64. Building on classic gameplay principles, it offers modern-level stage design and technical execution. The player pilots a helicopter through a confined complex, tasked with rescuing trapped individuals while avoiding or neutralizing hostile entities.

Multiple dangers and cunning traps to keep you interested.

The game was developed by Ken McIlveen and Dave Duke, who previously released the original version for the Commodore PET. The C64 port is not a simple conversion: the developers introduced new graphical themes, sound effects, joystick support, and refined gameplay tailored to the platformโ€™s technical constraints.

Fuel and ammunition are limited, but can be replenished at designated zones. Hidden switches, destructible walls, and unique visual themes are available in all the levels.

The C64 version demonstrates notable optimization. Level complexity, sprite handling, and collision detection are implemented with precision, respecting the platformโ€™s limitations. Audio and visual elements are thematically consistent, and gameplay offers a steadily increasing challenge curve.
