Quake64 (Kweepa, Under Development – Coming Soon!)

This is the final installment in id Software’s demake trilogy, which aims to recreate the oppressive atmosphere and revolutionary 3D gameplay of the original 1996 Quake on the Commodore 64’s modest hardware. Although the project was forced to make significant cuts in terms of functionality, it strives to recreate the experience of one of the cornerstones of the FPS genre using wireframe 3D graphics.

Planned features:

  • Fully 3D wireframe levels, rendered room by room, reminiscent of the Mercenary underground bases.
  • Dynamic enemies: stick-figure monsters moving like dragons, animated using a vertex-binding approach.
  • Wireframe weapons: special sprites with z-buffering and face IDs.
  • Classic levels: every location from E1M1 to E1M7 has been recreated.
  • Special sound effect handling: the music (by Mandy Kane) plays only in the menus, freeing up the audio channels for weapon, enemy, and environmental sounds.

Credits:

  • Programming, design, graphics: Kweepa
  • Music: Mandy Kane
  • Splash screen: Paul Docherty (d0kk!)
